BriteStar Newfoundlands is located in Pennsylvania in the Tri-State Area. We have owned, bred, and shown Newfoundlands since 1993. Our breeding program started after being introduced to Pouch Cove and Numa Newfoundland kennels. We bred our first Newfoundland, Numa's Reflection and Ch. Pouch Cove's Antares BriteStar, in 1999. Ch. Pouch Cove's Antares was bred to Ch. Pouch Cove's Candidate, ROM. Together, they produced 4 champions by the age of 19 months from their first litter.
Our love for the Newfoundland breed has led to a carefully selected breeding program; one or two litters per year. The dogs used in our breeding program have their hips and elbows evaluated by the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA), are screened for Cystinuria and are cleared by a Board Certified Cardiologist. Breeding healthy Newfoundlands that are of sound mind and body is our first priority - while maintaining proper breed type and conformation.
We have produced National and Regional Specialty placements, and have bred and shown our dogs to their American, Canadian, and Bermuda championships. Additionally, some of our dogs have also achieved obedience titles; BriteStar's Odin was in the top 20 in 2004 and 2007 and BriteStar's Sittin By the Bay has our first Rally title.
Our love for the PWD's started when Ch. Pouch Cove's Monkey See Monkey Do ("Digit") came to our home when he was 8 weeks old. Digit went on to pursue his show career so Pouch Cove's I Will If I Want (Rachel) came to fill the void - and that she did.
Our Newfoundlands and PWD's are sold with a written guarantee and are current on vaccinations and worming. All of our newfie puppies are cleared by a board certified cardiologist before going to their new homes. With each puppy we supply a packet of information including dietary recommendations and valuable information about housebreaking, crate training, and grooming. And of course, all puppies and adults come with a lifetime of support.
